A door-to-door wooden structure |
I must be joking when you were sleeping.
Woods, 5 candies, lines/ May 2006
The project is to build a wooden structure hung from the ceiling at eye level (153-160 cm from the floor), which connects two entrances of the exhibition space. If visitors follow it, they will walk out the show; nevertheless, they could enter another “same” space to see others’ works by lowering their heads. Besides, this installation is to dismiss the notion of the main wall by discharging the function of two entrances. Through this process, the power relationship between each work and artist are revealed.
The idea of this group show is aimed to address the question of exhibition: choosing a theme, limiting the size of work in order to keep the entirety of personal aesthetic requirement and deciding whose work should be placed on the main wall. Therefore, all the artists marked and wrote down the description and permission on wall or floor for another participants, which allows next person to react to the previous gesture. For example, you could not go across this line but you might change the title of my work. By giving out and keeping certain authority, we could realize what kind of aesthetic the author wants to protect.
